My Story
I have been collecting and restoring my own clocks for a number of years, and decided to make a career out of my hobby.

House Calls
I am located centrally in Munster, within a radius of counties Limerick, Cork, Waterford, Kilkenny and Tipperary, but not confined to this. I generally only do house calls for larger clocks. My fees are €90 for the callout and up to 2 hours work, after this, €130 in total for the remainder of day or part of as required. This is within a 80 km radius, longer distance negotiable.

Longcase (Grandfather) & Large Clocks
As these clocks should only be moved by professionals, I call to the owner’s house and assess the clock. If only a minor repair and or basic service/set up is required, I repair it there and then (above mentioned fees apply). Please note I CANNOT GUARANTEE any work carried out outside my workshop.

If more detailed work is required, I take the clock away. After work is completed, I return to your home and set up the clock. This will incur a charge for the repair work carried out in my workshop.

Repair & Restore – These words are thrown about in the clock world (Horology) and can cause a little confusion. In layman’s terms, they simply mean

Repair the clock to working order

Restore the clock to its original condition using the same/similar materials as when manufactured. The clocks history is researched and the restoration based on this. Generally speaking, less is more when it comes to restoration, resulting in a nice OLD looking clock as opposed to just off the shelf.

Pricing
There are a great variety of clocks, each of which presents its own problems. At times, there may be a number of solutions, which will influence the number of work hours required, and thus the overall price.

Quotes
I give as accurate a quote as possible, particularly if I can physically assess the clock. I can give an approximate quote over the phone as required. All work is discussed with the clock owner including any variations on a quote before work begins.

Value Of Clocks
As a rule, if you are lucky enough to own an expensive collector’s item, you probably already know its monetary value. If, as is more the norm, you’ve inherited a clock that has been in the family or in the house for a long time, the clocks value is probably mainly sentimental more than monetary. Typically, a wall clock will be in the €650 – €1,200 price range retail.
